Geared for 4–5 year olds to read themselves, they provide beginners with simple repetitive vocabulary (Books 1–8) and a paired reading facility (Books 9–16) to build confidence, enabling children to read at their own pace.
As they do so, reading about the Jesus of the Bible will help them understand how God wants to develop a personal relationship with them. They can also stimulate their memories by learning a Bible memory verse in each book, related to the subject of the book.
The Jesus Series is a unique genre for beginner readers, allowing children to encounter Jesus and build their reading skills with words common in other early readers, while providing a challenge with the newer words used in the Bible stories. Children will want to read these books over and over again as they gain confidence in their reading ability.
There is a phonic emphasis of the pure alphabet letter sounds in each of the books so that children can learn these basic sounds, related to illustrated objects (e.g. ‘o’ as in ‘orange’) for easier learning. Each book includes ideas for activities, plus a ‘Did you know’ fact to expand the children’s general knowledge.
In these ways, learning about the past, reading the stories in the present and having the benefit of memorising God's word for the uncertain future ahead, The Jesus Series can benefit every young child – whoever and wherever they are.
